:)There is nothing like New York Pizza! I have lived in North Carolina. The pizza does not compare with New York's. Now I am living in Northwest Indiana and they cut the pizza in squares and it's not as good as New York's.
Also, you can't get a decent bagel unless you go to PANERAS.
Can't wait until next month when I visit New York. I will definitely have many slices of good New York Pizza!
Unless the people in these other states are formerly from New York, the pizza and bagels are just not the same.
Just don't understand why - what's to making a good pizza and bagels???

Just one shop here in Port Charlotte for New York style pizza. The owner moved here from the city and does a pretty decent job...thin sliced and crisp!

bagels are pretty good in portland/beaverton -- also available with a shmear
have a few good ny style pizzerias hers -- when the first one opened years ago it was called escape from new york and it was the first one to sell pizza by the slice -- they did a local tv news story on it where the reporter showed how to eat a piece of pizza by folding it in half--- now why didnt any of the new yorkers ever think of that

iT MUST BE A MID-WEST THING - CUTTING PIZZA INTO SQUARES. THE FIRST TIME I ORDERED PIZZA HERE THAT'S HOW IT CAME. I COULDN'T BELIEVE IT! WHO THE H#LL EVER HEARD OF PIZZA CUT INTO SQUARES? ?? OF COURSE IT TASTES NOTHING LIKE NY PIZZA EITHER. THESE PEOPLE DO NOT KNOW WHAT REAL ITALIAN FOOD TASTES LIKE.

my son worked at a bagel store in bayside as a teenager and he would go in and make the batter early on sunday mornings------------i once asked him how to make a bagel --he said take 100 lbs of flour --------i stopped taking notes----------
when he first tasted portland bagels he said the problem was the water

You should try the pizza and/or gravy (sorry, SAUCE is the politically accepted way to say it now, my sons have informed me) here in western NY. It's enough to make a Bronxite, Italian or othewise, cry into their pasta.

When we moved to NJ in 1967 we couldn't drink the water, so every weekend we'd drive into the Bronx. My mom lived on Purdy St and we'd visit and fill gallon milk containers with good old Bronx water. It's actually been voted one of the best tasting water supplies in the nation.

:)Charlie......................where did your mother live on Purdy Street? I lived at 1718 Purdy Street from 1959 to 1967. Remember I said you looked familiar. Probably saw you around Purdy St.
Never realized the water was so...........good there. I guess so if everyone keeps saying "it's the water"!
